Serendipity

It was one of those days…

…it began with some sunshine, but more clouds.

Rain was predicted, but this being Paris, who knew when it would finally arrive

We took our friends up to Sacre Coeur, where the crowds were even more intense than usual.  We walked around the church, and prayed noon prayer with the Poor Clares.

It was raining when we emerged, the crowds – there for the grape harvest festival (there is one vineyard remaining on Montmartre) were pressing, so we decided to go back to the apartment.

We’d had a plan for the afternoon, but the rain discouraged us, so we decided to take a break and just chill.

A movie was begun, and about halfway through, some noises began to compete.  Not the usual and varied street noises, but something else…drums? A band? Really?

Really.

It was the parade for the beginning of the Fête des Vendanges de Montmartre

….and we were pretty glad that even though the sun was (sort of) shining by then and our other plans probably could have happened…we were glad that they didn’t, and we ended up here, waving from the balcony at the parade of bands and vintners right here at “home.”

Plans?

Who needs them?

We NY harbor people feel the vintner parade needs a NY touch…a big baloon overhead of a foot with grapes between the toes. Just sayin’.
